LESSONS

   We are very proud of our teaching staff and our facilities. We offer private one-on-one lessons in air conditioned, studios. We have a comfortable waiting area for parents and others. The cost for lessons is $35.00 per week. You receive a half hour private lesson tailored to your needs and desires. From "Fun Approach" to dedicated study, we attempt to fulfill your needs. Each member of our teaching staff can help beginning to advanced players understand and master a variety of guitar styles.

Our Teaching Staff

John Heussenstamm

   With over 40 years of professional experience, John has developed a formidable technical prowess on the guitar. He specializes in jazz, blues, modern fusion, rock, and country. John teaches players of all ages and skill levels, inspiring and motivating his students to exceed their expectations and reach their potential. John’s most recent tour finished in Australia and we feel very fortunate to have him back teaching again. John is a published author of books & videos for Hal Leonard Publications. www.johnhguitar.com

 


Brandon Bernstein

 Brandon discovered his passion for jazz and improvised music while attending Berklee College of Music.  He received a BA in Jazz Performance from Concordia University in 2003. After finishing his Master's degree Brandon was awarded a Teaching Assistantship at the University of Southern California where he completed his Doctorate in Jazz Studies in the fall of 2008.

As a musician, Brandon has performed and/or studied with a variety of well-known artists including Larry Koonse, Pat Kelley, Bruce Forman, Kate Reid, Putter Smith, Dave Koonse, Chuck Manning, Greg Leisz, Tony Dumas, Adam Del Monte, Delfeayo Marsalis,Wynton Marsalis and many many others! Brandon’s debut album “But Beautiful” was released in 2013 and reached “7 on the jazz charts in America.

Brandon is currently teaches here at The Guitar Shoppe and is an adjunct professor at Irvine Valley College, Saddleback College, Rio Hondo College, and Musicians Institute where he teaches music classes and lectures. He gigs regularly throughout Los Angeles. 

 

 


Ed Krajec

   Ed is our resident rock guitarist. He possesses the unique ability to inspire players of all ages —especially young beginners — and get them having fun immediately! Ed’s song catalog is vast and he is able to teach students the music that is important to them. Ed currently plays solo acoustic guitar at local art shows as well as many gigs with different bands around Southern California. His favorite saying is “remember to have fun while you learn!”

 



Alex Vo

 Alex Vo has been teaching music to kids and adults for over 20 years. He is an accomplished studio musician and has toured all over the country. He specializes in many styles, including jazz, blues improv. Alex teaches guitar, piano, Hammond organ, mandolin, ukulele, banjo, pedal steel, bass, harmonica, melodica, slide guitar and Gypsy jazz guitar. 

 


Greg Coleman

 Greg will always be missed. Greg passed away September 16th, 2005 following a valiant battle with cancer. He stretched a “3-month prognosis” into two years. Beside being an accomplished mountain climber and wilderness hiker, Greg taught classical and flamenco guitar for over 40 years. He studied with Pepe Romero, Fredrick Noad and Joe Pass. Greg has 3 recently published books of fingerstyle arrangements put out by Warner Brothers. The books’ titles are "Movie Themes", "Great Standards", and "The Official Star Wars Song Book". On April 11th 2006, Greg was posthumously awarded his hard-earned Master’s Degree in Music from the University of California.

 


Regimen

Lessons are given Monday through Saturday, late morning to early evening. Instructors require 24 hour notice to avoid charging for canceled or missed appointments. Please make lesson payments directly to the instructors. Monthly payments are appreciated and encouraged. Metered parking is available on the highway and side streets. Yes we have quarters for the meters. Infact, we will give you FIVE quarters for one dollar! Please do not park in the lighting store lot or the motel lot.

We have a waiting room for parents and others (yes free WIFI) or please take advantage of one of the most beautiful beaches in the world... Less then a block away!
